Team Boston traves to NYC for ESPI 2012

Boston Bike Polo sent out a crew to the East Side Polo Invite 2012. Team Boston teamed up with Rad Caps for their Jerseys, which were undoubtably the Pro-est on the courts. This year ESPIS was a bench format, each team having an unlimited roster, with only 9 active during each game. New York Hardcourt Bike Polo hosted 6 East Coast Teams: Richmond VA, New York NY, Philly PA, Pittsburg PA, Boston MA, and Washington DC. Teams competed in round robin games on Saturday, with players grueling through 2 30min halves. Ben Schultz from Chicago was on hand to make sure reffing was at pro status. The Finals on Sunday came down to a 3 point comeback by RVA to beat NyC. Boston lost an ultra fun losers match against Philly to end up in 4th overall. We’ll get um next year, for sure!

A GOOD SUMMER ON PAPER, WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS

Nick and Ian are good on paper
CoCo Kiwi (ESPI4th) -Jacob,Toni,Nick Kruse

Boston Bike Polo enjoyed podiums galore this summer making it one hot summer on paper for the best club in the East. Big ups to Jacob from Copenhagen and Nick Kruse from COMO (ESPI MVP), who joined some of our teams to add depth and euro style. Both of them are now honorary life long BBP members and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with them for future events. Nick Regan teamed up with Ian(RVA) and Mike (DC) at the Last Stand Again in Burlington Vermont and won it beating the reining champs in a 2 leg final. Nick walked away with the MVP award.

Although every team in Boston qualified for the North American Championships very easily, we did not send any players or teams, which was a bit of a disappointment for us, but a bonus for everybody else who went. By the looks of things only 2 or 3 players from the whole East coast actually flew out Calgary anyhow, so no shame in staying home and saving the pennies.  It looks like there will be only one player from Boston going to the Worlds in Seattle in a few weeks. Good luck Jav who is playing with Jonny & Pierre from Wisconsin. We all want to be there with our close friends and champions from Seattle but timing, money and distance were all against us this time….

HOCKEY TOWN BOSTON – WINTER LOCK IN

It has been almost a month since Boston threw a monster of an indoor event. 26 teams with the best players in the World in attendance. So much to say but I cant be bothered. The highlights for Boston was our A team (Nick(best man), Tony & Neil Young) coming 8th overall, beating Machine Politics of Chicago (Runner up in the World Championships, in the Swiss Rounds on day 1. Then on the sunday double elim they got knocked out by the World Champions by a sudden death goal, but it really could have gone either way.

UPCOMING ROCHESTER TOURNAMENT

We have two teams representing Boston at the Flour City Invitational in Rochester, New York.  One team is all brains, the other, all brawn.  I predict double first place if the contest is to determine whose city’s players are the most awe inspiring.  Photos will be posted upon our victorious return to the city.

NAHBPC bid and new website

Boston is currently working very hard to place a bid for the North American Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships in 2010. We have been talking to everyone to get them involved whether is just be volunteering, donating prizes or working with sponsors. We are very excited to have the chance to host the NAHBPC. This event will be bringing in 180 of the best players, and various media outlets from around the country.

If you have any interest in helping out for NAHBPC, send an email to info@bostonbikepolo.org. We will know after the 25th if our bid was selected.

In the mean time go check out the brand new website at bostonbikepolo.org. There is also a new Polo Only forum attached to the main website, where you can learn about all the current polo happenings.
